Hiatus

Long time no blog. I thought I should make a quick post to let you know where the heck I've been and what's going on. I'm taking a bit of a break from raw food. There's a few reasons for this.
Firstly, it's winter and it simply doesn't feel right to me to be high raw during the winter (especially where I live.) As you may know I'm an Ayurvedic therapist and ayurvedically speaking the winter is not the time to be cleansing either.
Secondly - and this is actually the biggest reason! - I'm training for my first NPC competition which is happening next March. Because of this my entire diet has been turned totally upside down!! I am cutting my carbs by about 75% and upping my protein by about 100%!! I simply could not achieve this on a raw diet. It's hard enough on a cooked vegetarian diet. (Okay, so I know it CAN be done - there are some raw bodybuilders out there. But that's not a challenge I'm up for at the moment!)
However I do want to say that I never, ever, would have reached this place in my life (or my body) without raw food. It was because of my time spent raw last spring and summer that I lost so much weight and adopted an entirely new perspective on health. It was because of raw food I have the fitness goals that I have now.
So don't worry  - I still love raw food and I still think it's the best thing a person can do for themself. I'm just taking a little hiatus from the all-out obsession. It has been replaced, for the time being, with the gym and protein shakes. :)

Our life is the sum total of our choices. We always have a choice.
